Spiritual Direction
“Spiritual guidance … calls for the creation of space in which the validity of the questions does not depend on the availability of answers, but on the questions’ capacity to open us up to new perspectives and horizons” Henri Nouwen
Each of us is born with the capacity to interact with the divine. God loves us and desires friendship with us. However, the soul is essentially shy and often driven into hiding by the very ways we engage in daily life and the variety of challenges we face.
Spiritual direction offers hospitality to the life of the soul. It provides a gift of companionship as the director invites the directee to explore, nurture and deepen their relationship with God. Together they share the mystery and grace of God’s presence and action in life.
Spiritual direction is voluntary and takes place in an affirming God space. It is a confidential oasis for communion with God. A private, confidential space of peace, openness, receptivity, safety and Godly presence. without any preset or predetermined agenda The Director ensures there is a supportive atmosphere where the directee can be present with God and receive support in their inner journey listening to God’s voice. The eyes of both heart and mind are opened and the directee grows in authenticity.
This sacred space is protected by ground rules drawn up into an agreement between director and directee at their first meeting. Sessions normally run for an hour of face to face time and there is a modest charge of £25 payable to ‘The Contemplative Network’.
Dr Micha Jazz is a qualified Spiritual Director having completed his training at the Franciscan International Study Centre, Canterbury, UK.
The director is one who knows and sympathizes, who makes allowances, who understands circumstances, who is not in a hurry, who is patiently and humbly waiting for indications of God’s action in the soul...the director is interested in our very self, in all its uniqueness, its pitiable misery and its breathtaking greatness. A true director can never get over the awe he feels in the presence of a person.…
